Bad year for Rookies?
So Today… The NFL decided to hold of the lockout for another 24 hours this morning. But the Lockout will most likely happen, there is no doubt to that. This could be a very bad year for rookies. “If everything happens like we all expect and the owners lock out the players, teams will be able to draft guys but not sign them. They also won’t be able to bring them into OTAs, minicamps, give them playbooks, or even talk to them,” says Jason from the Philadelphia Eagle News. This really means more a lot more to most free agents and guys picked in the middle of the draft. Guys that are in the top of the draft won’t really be affected too much because they are being drafted for their talent. The one really big thing this will change is how the rookies approach the game. They won’t really know their playbooks that much, and the guys that scouts are not really sure about are going to have a hard time proving that they are worthy enough to play on the next level. The withholding of rookies in mini-camps really hurt the teams I think, without seeing everyone in action it is really going to be hard for them to pick out potential NFL starters. There is not much that can be said at this point, but it will be really interesting to see what’s going to happen in the next couple of days.
